The ignition system is intended to provide the spark required to ignite the fuel mixture in the cylinders. This process must be accurate and at an appropriate speed. Creating the voltage high enough to form the arc across the spark plug gap is one of the tasks performed by the ignition system. As a result, the spark ignites the fuel mixture. The second task of this system is to control the timing of the spark, ensuring that it is produced at the right moment to send it to the corresponding cylinder.
Components such as the distributor, ignition coil, spark plugs, and ignition switch, among others, are used for ignition system functions. In the case of the coil, it is defined as a current transformer. This component includes primary and secondary circuit windings. When current passes through the coil, a magnetic field is created, and when power interruptions occur, the magnetic field collapses in the secondary circuit windings. This process creates a high voltage that is subsequently released through the large central terminal. As a final result, the voltage is provided to the spark plugs using the distributor.
When the diagnostic code P1375 OBD2 is set on Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, it is because the ignition circuit for cylinder 8 is found to be shorted to ground.
