Description of DTC code P0626

The generator field circuit has a built-in coil, which is in charge of maintaining the battery with optimum charge levels. So, when the vehicle is in motion, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will monitor alternator/generator voltages and continuity levels.

The P0626 OBDII diagnostic code is a generic code that is set when the PCM detects signal voltages, which are at their highest levels regarding the generator field coil circuit.

The "F" is simply a continuous representation of the error, which indicates that the generator circuit is malfunctioning.

Symptoms of fault code P0626

  • Check Engine light ON.
  • The engine shuts off unexpectedly.
  • Engine starting problems.
  • Difficulty in handling the engine.

Causes of OBD2 P0626

The DTC P0626 OBD2 is possibly stored for the following reasons:

  • A fuse may be blown.
  • Possibly the wiring harness and alternator circuit connectors are faulty.
  • The alternator may be damaged.

Possible solutions of the DTC code P0626

To solve the P0626 OBDII error code fault properly, follow the recommendations below:

  • Check the charge level of the battery. Check if the voltage outputs to the generator are similar to those recommended by the manufacturer. If necessary, make the corresponding repair.
  • Check the wiring related to the generator circuit for any problems. Also, make sure that there are no blown fuses. If you find any faults that require replacement or repair, proceed to do so.
  • To confirm that the battery is sending voltage throughout the alternator control circuit, use a DVOM (Digital Voltage-Ohm Meter) if you get voltage readings that are irregular from those provided by the manufacturer. Make the necessary correction.
