P0462 - FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW INPUT
Description of DTC code P0462
The Fuel Level Sensor (FLS) measures the amount of fuel in the tank. It consists of three individual components: a resistor, a drive rod, and a float.
The float rests on the fuel, which is attached to the drive rod. In turn, the rod is attached to the resistor which has a 12 volt supply of power from the battery, and a wire that runs to the fuel gauge to report the level. This information is important to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to make some adjustments in the vehicle according to some conditions.
When the P0462 OBDII diagnostic code is stored, it is because the FLS Sensor voltage readings are too low to be accurate.
Symptoms of fault code P0462
- Illuminated check engine light.
- Lower fuel economy.
- Fuel level reading on the instrument cluster gauge is wrong.
Causes of OBD2 P0462
Reasons to set the P0462 OBD2 trouble code:
- Fuel tank defects.
- Fuel Level Sensor signal circuit is possibly shorted.
- FLS Sensor may be damaged.
Possible solutions of the DTC code P0462
To troubleshoot the problems that are associated with DTC P0462 OBDII code, try this:
- Consult the TSB (TechnicalServiceBulletins) available for your vehicle.
- Locate the FLS Sensor and inspect all the wiring and connectors. Check that none of these are damaged by wear, corrosion, or burning. If this is the case, make the respective repairs. Then clear the code.
- By using a DVOM connected to the ground terminal and the signal wire, at the FLS Sensor wiring harness connector, check the power supply. Compare the result with the manufacturer's specifications. If there are irregularities between the voltages, make some repairs.
- Check the resistance of the Fuel Level Sensor. Replace it if the resistance is not as specified by the manufacturer.
