P0204 - INJECTOR CIRCUIT MALFUNTION - CYLINDER 4
Description of DTC code P0204
The diagnostic code P0204 OBD2 indicates that the Power Train Control Module (PCM) has detected a fault in one of the injectors or even this fault can be caused by one of the cables leading to the sensor. The injector is monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and when it is activated, the PCM expects the injector voltage to be low or close to zero.
When the injector is off, the voltage should have a high voltage or close to the battery voltage. In case the voltage is not within the expected levels, fault code P0204 is established. It should also be noted that this code is established if the result is that the resistance of the circuit is low or high excessively.
Symptoms of fault code P0204
- Check Engine light is activated.
- The engine has a lack of power.
- Instability in the operation of the engine.
- Low fuel efficiency.
Causes of OBD2 P0204
The problems that can lead to the establishment of code P0204 can be:
- The wiring leading to the sensor may have a component in poor condition.
- Perhaps there is a short circuit in the wiring leading to the injector.
- The injector may be defective.
Possible solutions of the DTC code P0204
To solve the diagnostic code P0204 you can do the following:
- With the help of a DVOM you should check the resistance of the injector, and compare them with the factory specifications. If you notice that it is not within the expected range, you can change the injector.
- Also verify that the voltage at the injector connector is not less than 10 volts.
- Observe the connector for damage or perhaps a bad connection due to faulty cables. Repair if you find inconsistency in one of these or change if necessary.
- Check that the injector is not damaged.
- If you have an injectors tester available, you can check the operation of the injector with that tool. If it works correctly, the problem is in the cables.
- If you have access to a nozzle tester you can change one injector for another and check if the code changes. If so, you can replace the injector.
