P0035 - TURBOCHARGER OR SUPERCHARGER BYPASS VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH
Description of DTC code P0035
When the DTC P0035 OBDII code is stored, it is because the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has found a malfunction in the circuit that controls the turbocharger pressure bypass valve. This code indicates there is a high-pressure condition in the valve circuit.
The turbocharger boost controller calculates the input data from various engine and transmission sensors to determine the boost pressure required for the engine to operate at optimum levels. The boost pressure control valve is commanded by the PCM to open or close as required.
If the required boost pressure does not match the actual boost pressure, this code will be set next to the Check Engine light.
Symptoms of fault code P0035
- MIL light ON.
- The temperature of the engine and transmission increases.
- Discharge valve or turbocharger hoses may produce random noises.
- A reduction of the motor decreases.
- Other turbocharger codes are stored.
Causes of OBD2 P0035
The P0035 OBD2 error code is set due to the following reasons:
- The Boost Pressure Sensor (BPS) is probably faulty.
- The turbocharger bypass valve may have failed.
- There may be disconnected or clogged vacuum lines.
- The bypass valve actuator may be malfunctioning.
- There could be corroded or bad system cables.
Possible solutions of the DTC code P0035
When troubleshooting faults caused by the P0035 OBDII fault code, follow these suggestions:
- Check for Technical Service Bulletins according to your vehicle model.
- Inspect all the vacuum hoses related to the turbocharger. Also, check the boost control system wiring. If you find any of these components are defective, they should be repaired or replaced.
- Perform an intake system pressure test between the turbocharger and the intake valve. If the pressure is above the pressure set by the manufacturer, the bypass valve or actuator must be replaced.
- If you do not find problems with the pressure, you have to replace the Pressure Sensor.
