The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) systems have been implemented in today’s vehicles to achieve the best fuel efficiency as well as engine power. In this system, the PCM controls an Oil Control Valve (OCV), which is activated by a solenoid. The valve’s function is to apply oil pressure to an actuator located between the camshaft and timing chain. In turn, the actuator alters the position of the camshaft.
When the P000A OBDII fault code is set, it is because the PCM detects that the camshaft position is not equal to the required position. The description “A” refers to the intake, left, or front camshaft.
