P000A - "A" CAMSHAFT POSITION SLOW RESPONSE BANK 1

P000A

Description of DTC code P000A

The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) systems have been implemented in today's vehicles to achieve the best fuel efficiency as well as engine power. In this system, the PCM controls an Oil Control Valve (OCV), which is activated by a solenoid. The valve's function is to apply oil pressure to an actuator located between the camshaft and timing chain. In turn, the actuator alters the position of the camshaft.

When the P000A OBDII fault code is set, it is because the PCM detects that the camshaft position is not equal to the required position. The description "A" refers to the intake, left, or front camshaft.

Symptoms of fault code P000A

  • The Check Engine light turns on.
  • Increased emissions.
  • Reduction of engine power.
  • Notable engine noises.

Causes of OBD2 P000A

Reasons why the P000A OBD2 DTC P000A is set:

  • The amount of engine oil may not be enough.
  • The Camshaft Position Sensor may be faulty.
  • The Oil Control Valve (OCV) may be defective.
  • The actuator of the VVT system could be in bad condition.
  • Damaged cables may be present.
  • The time chain could have deficiencies.

Possible solutions of the DTC code P000A

To troubleshoot the P000A OBDII diagnostic code, try this:

  • Consult the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that apply to your vehicle.
  • Check that the engine oil level is adequate for the proper operation of the vehicle. Also, check the oil for contaminants. Make the necessary corrective actions.
  • Check the wiring and other circuit components related to the system. Repair or replace any of these as required.
  • Verify that the CMP Sensor has the proper power, reference voltage, and ground values. Use the service manual for sensor diagnostic steps. Repair or replace as required.
  • Check the sensor circuit for proper grounding and 5-volt reference. Repair if one of these values is not present.
  • With a multimeter, check the resistance of the solenoid. The value you get should be compared to the specified value. If the meter shows an out-of-spec resistance, replace the solenoid.
  • Verify proper power and grounding of the solenoid circuit. Repair as required.
