P0001 - FUEL VOLUME REGULATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT / OPEN
Description of DTC code P0001
It is not very common to see the establishment of diagnostic code P0001 OBDII, frequent in vehicles equipped with diesel or direct injection of gasoline.
It is related to the electrical system, as it is part of the fuel volume control system. The fuel system of vehicles is composed of: fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, filter and injectors.
In the case of the fuel pump, its function is to increase the fuel pressure, which is needed in the fuel rail for the injectors to use. Fuel pumps have a high pressure side and a fuel volume regulator that is pressure controlled. When DTC code P0001 OBD2 is set it means that the electrical reading is open.
Symptoms of fault code P0001
- Malfunction light illumination (MIL).
- Vehicle may not start.
- Loss of power.
- Low fuel efficiency.
Causes of OBD2 P0001
When the DTC code P0001 OBD2 is set it is because one or more of the following problems have occurred:
- The fuel regulator plug may not be connected.
- Fuel volume regulator solenoid may be defective.
- Leaking pressure regulator.
- Defective cables or connectors
Possible solutions of the DTC code P0001
The steps for the correction of the fault code P0001 are as follows:
- Consult the Technical Service Bulletins (TBS) according to the model of your vehicle.
- Inspect cables and connectors that are related to the fuel regulator circuit and system. Make sure there are no worn or defective cables. Perform necessary repairs or replacement of any of these components if necessary.
- Note that the Fuel Volume Regulator (FVR) has two cables that return to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), so you should not directly apply battery voltage.
