B1706 HYUNDAI, KIA: PASSENGER BUCKLE PRETENSIONER RESISTANCE TOO HIGH
Description of DTC code B1706
A pretensioner is designed to allow the safety belts to be more effective by eliminating the belt slack after a collision occurs, or if the system detects excessive tension in the passenger or driver safety belt. The Buckle Pretensioner circuit includes the Supplemental Restraint System Control Module (SRSCM) and two Buckle Pretensioners.
When the resistance of the BUPT launcher exceeds the allowed parameters, the B1706 OBD2 fault code will be set.
Symptoms of fault code B1706
- The Check Engine light turns on.
Causes of OBD2 B1706
The B1706 OBDII diagnostic code is stored due to the following reasons:
- The passenger buckle pretensioner wiring may be faulty.
- The Passenger Buckle Pretensioner circuit electrical connections may be in poor condition.
- The passenger buckle pretensioner may be defective.
- The Control Module of the Supplementary Restraint System may be damaged.
